Together with its partners, FES organizes workshops and seminars at local and national level. These are mostly aimed at building institutional capacity of partners. In addition, policy dialogues and Open Forums are organized that provide space for public debate and knowledge building around our topics of social justice, labour rights, democracy and gender equality.

Achieving sustainable peace. Colombo, 4 March 2012

On the occasion of the visit of leading German scientist and philosopher Professor Dr. Hans-Peter Durr, the Weeramantry Center (WICPER) together with FES hold two events in early March. A lecture “Achieving sustainable peace” will be held at the Galle Face Hotel on 4 March, and an Open Forum together with Judge C.G. Weeramantry, Founder-Trustee, WICPER on 5 March at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

 

An International Conference "Critical Women:Women as Agents of Change through Higher Education"

Conference "The future of social science research in Sri Lanka"

 This 2 day conference (29 February – 1 March 2012) at Galbangalawela Conference Center, Kandy will bring together academics from the ICES and from universities around the island (Colombo, Peradeniya, Jaffna, Battocaloa, Ruhuna and Open University to identify pressing and fruitful areas for joint research acitvities in the future. Topics are international relations, health and environment, caste and gender and reconciliation. The keynote lecture will be held by the internationally renowned Sri Lanka anthropologist Gananath Obeyesekere (Professor Emeritus, Princeton). Attendance is on invitation only.

Training Course on Trade Union Organising and Trade Unionism

This training course on Trade Union organising and Trade Unionism targets young trade union activists and middle level union functionaries. The course adresses issues of trade unionism with a view to creating a group of catalysts who can assist modernise and strengthen genuine trade unionism and enhance union membership. Applications for the course will be called in February 2012.
